Rainwater Your Lawn This Summer

The current rainy weather might not be good for your plans, but there’s one thing it is good for —your lawn. While it might be obvious that water is good for your grass, especially when approaching warmer weather, it’s even better when it comes directly from the sky.

This is because rainwater has less chemicals than the water that comes through our taps. Tap water is treated in order for us to drink it, but that means it has more chlorine and fluoride which is not as nutritional for your grass. Minerals such as calcium and magnesium make the water we use on our lawns hard and do not hydrate the grass in the same way as rainwater.

The Grass is Always Greener

We often wonder why the grass looks greener on the other side, but we also wonder why it looks greener after rainfall too. We aren’t completely sure about the grass on the other side, but we can tell you why it looks greener after a rainfall! To put it simply, it’s because of the nitrogen in the rainwater. As you may know, nitrogen is an essential nutrient for grass plants as it supports photosynthesis.

Nitrogen is responsible for grass growth and colour. It helps the grass to replenish stocks and expel waste, allowing the grass to decompose the dead roots and grow new ones. From now on, you can think of rainfall as a detox juice diet for your lawn as it gets summer ready. The next time it rains, stay inside and observe your grass transitioning to a vivid green. Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining

Another great aspect of rainwater is that it enhances the lawn care treatments provided by our technicians. Fertilization and seeding treatments benefit from rainfall as it improves the irrigation. Without the rainwater, our fertilizer would not be able to penetrate the soil and access the deep grass root systems. However, some weed treatments can be adversely affected by heavy rainfall if it occurs within a few hours of application. If this happens, get in contact with our office and we will happily arrange a respray.
